About Digital Enterprise Academy

The Digital Enterprise Academy is an innovative learning environment  and gathering place for the entire community, bringing together children, families, educators and more.

We reach across the socio-economic spectrum to inspire and empower the next generation of innovators, creators, and technology entrepreneurs.

Through our work with DCPS, DC Public Libraries, and other community organizations, we serve students with transformative, year-round programs and initiatives, bringing our mobile makerspace to schools, libraries, and community groups  Monday – Friday. We serve the broader community through weekend programming, after-school programs, camps, and special events, with a focus on the family experience.

We also offer programs for schools, libraries, and community groups that help integrate maker education into their learning, as well as continuing STEM learning and development opportunities for high schoolers. Learn more at FAQ.

Our Story

Randy Wilkins, then a substitute teacher in DC Public Schools.  Working in the classroom, he was struck by the lack of technology in the classroom he saw in this capital of the United States of America.  While there were computer schools offering training to young people, there were no jobs for many of them once they graduated.  He believed we were failing to grasp this opportunity.

The demand for tech skills is outpacing the ability of our education system and the educators to provide for it.  This in turn is rapidly opening a digital divide that is holding back our economy and our young people.  We need to change this was his goal.  We are in a digital communications revolution that is inspired through smart phones, tablets and other gadgets in a way textbooks never could.  This potential must be seized.  We must increasingly attract young people to science and technology and we must ensure the opportunities are there for all of them was his mission.  While attending a Georgetown University Professional Development Program in Project Management, he saw an opportunity to combine his three passions of business, technology, and working with young people.  So, with help of two other classmates, he founded Clairvoya and the Digital Enterprise Academy.

About Clairvoya

Clairvoya was founded as a 501(c) 3 organization, located in the District of Columbia. Clairvoya's aim of preparing pupils in D.C. public schools and others out of school, to be digital citizens and scholars and better make them for life after school for the new digital economy in the 21st century.

We also believe that young people can participate in making contributions to smart city initiatives that will improve the lives of all citizens. The innovative structure of this program meets with suggested activities designed to provide the best outcomes for youth in this city. By focusing on technology education, employment training, vocational and leadership development, and entrepreneurship training, the program is ahead of the curve in providing services to disadvantaged young people.

Clairvoya’s unique and innovative approach launched following research identifying needs and skills gaps and preventative provisions to equip young people with skills to successfully transition from school to work. Working in communities with some of the highest intergenerational unemployment rates in the country, Clairvoya was created to break this cycle and prevent the next generation of youth unemployment.

The Digital Enterprise Academy Makerspace goal is to make a significant contribution to development and realization of the digital economy and society in Washington, D.C. through the building of human capacity and capabilities through the use of technology. The chronic levels of youth unemployment means that policymakers’ attention must be focused on the young. It is also an opportunity to engage those who have been turned off by mainstream education and a lack of jobs.
